Recently, vegan makeup has skyrocketed to popularity. Personally, I was wondering what the hype was all about. After doing some research, I found that there are over ten plant extracts that help reduce redness and wrinkles.
The ingredients in vegan makeup are found in nature and aren’t processed to mimic a natural look. Better yet, it comes in your everyday powders and in spray on formulas. I feel good knowing that I’m preserving the quality of my skin and putting my money into products that are cruelty-free, too.
Natural Extracts Keep Skin Healthy
I don’t know about you, but sometimes it’s hard to find something to cover the circles under my eyes. Even when I find a product that provides good coverage for those, I turn around and there are acne to deal with.
What if we stopped covering up the problem and started treating our skin with the care it deserves?
SOOTHE AND PROTECT
A lot of products that I’ve been trying recently use extracts that aren’t processed. These include chia extract, oat bran extract, and even rice protein, to name a few that have stood out. These have anti-inflammatory properties and even go so far as to help with everyday breakouts, rashes, and other irritations.
They protect my skin from toxins, which helps keep it looking young. It may come as a surprise, but scientific studies have shown a correlation between air pollution and aging more quickly. Air pollution has also been shown to contribute to skin irritation, causing problems like eczema or rashes.
ANTIOXIDATE AND BUILD
Not convinced? Some ingredients, such as oat bran extract, provide a source of antioxidants that remove free radicals. Free radicals damage the skin by taking away an electron from the atoms that make up our DNA. This changes the DNA structure and causes long term damage.
Better yet, many elements of vegan makeup are protein-rich and can help make my skin healthier. Protein provides a lot of the basic elements necessary for life, like amino acids, so it is healthy for me in that way as well.
Vegan Makeup Offers Variety
A big reason I wanted to try vegan makeup was the heaviness of the traditional kind – I would often apply it in many layers. This doesn’t allow my skin to breathe and often causes redness or acne. It was also hard to apply my foundation cohesively to create a unified look and to get it to stay on all day.
As I researched vegan makeup, I found one of the most common ingredients between the brands I looked into was microcrystalline wax. This gem is known for its ability to bind the product to my skin, thus helping my makeup stay on for longer.
The binding properties of microcrystalline wax include the binding of oils that would normally dissolve makeup, such as sweat. Even when we sweat or get rained on, there is a barrier between the environment and our makeup.
SPRAY ON MAKEUP
Very common in my research were spray on vegan products instead of traditional powders. These products combine the ingredients mentioned above and take away the need to use heavy amounts of product every day.
Besides, spray on makeup is breathable, lasts longer and is more hygienic, since the same brush isn’t touching my skin every single day.
I found out I have a lot of options when it comes to vegan makeup. The ingredients will be healthier for me and I can choose a cleaner and longer-lasting mode of application, as most vegan products come in a spray on finished product.
Responsible Way of Life
I feel better about choosing vegan makeup since it is healthier for my skin. The natural formulas give me an anti-aging, anti-irritant option that builds up the strength of my skin. Most of these products don’t test on animals, either.
I can feel how much more love and respect I’m giving both to myself and the environment now.
