It’s not a novelty that vegan culture has grown exponentially in the last few years. Certainly, in every social circle we are part of, there’s a very high chance that a vegan member is included. And this fact may be the kickstarter for great debates not only regarding food but also about all those other important things that matter to vegans.
This powerful movement slapped us in the face with a crazy amount of new ideas and ways of living. It almost shocked the world for a moment when it happened. But it seems like now we have not only accepted this revolution as a very cool part of our culture but also we embraced many of the habits as our own. I don’t mean that everybody is suddenly going vegan because this goes a lot further than just changing your food elimination.
Taking a Look at the Numbers
Did you know that in the last two years the “Vegan desserts” pin saving went up 329% in Pinterest? Everyone and everywhere is looking for recipes, and that’s just remarkable. In the UK, free-meat alimentation has grown almost 1000% (yes, you read that right, a thousand, not a hundred!) in the last couple of years. But this game-changing revolution is not only taking place in the UK. In the USA, 1.62 million people are estimated to be completely vegan.
These numbers are crazy. I know what you’re thinking. But they’re as real as the cauliflower steak I just had for lunch. And chances are that these figures, soon, are going nowhere but up. You can check for yourself if you don’t believe me. Go to any large book store website and search “vegan.” You will be delivered nothing less than two thousand books up for sale, I assure you. And it’s truly incredible how it wasn’t like this a few years back.
Food Is Just One Factor
Like I said before, even if this five-year incredible growth is mainly an alimentation habit change, the vegan culture has a lot more to offer than just food. We have to take a close look at another vital matter, which is animal cruelty. Thanks to this movement, we are now aware, for example, that dairy cows were genetically modified to be able to deliver ten times their milk capacity.
Also, we have to think about how many products we daily that are tested on live animals. That’s when it’s up to us whether we continue to use these kinds of products or we use cruelty-free ones like Rock Candy spray-on makeup.
Make sure the things you buy are completely clean and certified by the Vegan Organization and the Leaping Bunny Program. This is the kind of certification we have to look for when using any products. They use organic and natural materials and don’t leave behind any harmful and toxic synthetics. No little cows need to suffer in order for you to look smooth as a baby’s tushy and that’s just incredible.
What We Might Experience in the Future
A few lines back, we mentioned how the vegan food industry has grown in the last five years, and now we’re going to take a look at how it is going to appear in the future. It is estimated that meat is going to be out of the picture in no-time. Plant-based meat is going to raise $5.2 billion and take up to a third of the entire market by 2050.
All the big fish in the industry took note of what’s happening and started to change too – an extraordinary number of food chains are starting to offer vegan menus. Maybe they’re not so into cruelty-free and veganism as we are and they’re only trying not to lose money, but hey, it’s positive anyway. Chances are that in the next few years ordering a vegan menu in any fast-food establishment or fine-dining restaurant is going to be as regular as asking for no ice in your drink. It’s no secret that the revolution… is vegan!
