Accept it or not, beautiful skin is a visible indicator of good health. As a vegan, you might be ahead of others when it comes to skincare, but it is still paramount to have some handy tips that are favorable to your skin. We bring you some fantastic skin care tips to help you sustain a healthy glowy skin without jeopardizing your vegan lifestyle. While every tip here might not work in the same way for everyone, they are great for your skin as a vegan. These skin care tips are a great place to start for every vegan, so let’s get going!
Sleep, sleep, sleep!
It’s heartbreaking how so many people ignore the power of sleep and what it can do to any skin, not just vegan skin. Your body requires about 6-8 hours of sleep every night. This helps the body to rest and repair itself – think mini-hibernation. If you don’t grab enough sleep, your blood vessels will begin to dilate. This can increase stress, and cause nasty dark circles to form under your eyes. Lack of sleep can lead to a general deterioration of your health, not just that of your skin.
Keep your face clean
Endeavor to clean your face at least once daily to remove dirt and dead skin cells. You can wash your face using soap and water, or with a ball of wet cotton wool. If you’re using soap, ensure it is devoid of toxic ingredients. Be careful not to “overwash” your face so as not to remove its natural oils.
Stop touching your face
Our hands are easily contaminated because they come in contact with lots of germs and dirty surfaces throughout the day. Always resist the urge to touch your face so as not to transfer bacteria and other germs to your face unknowingly. If you can’t stop this bad habit, then wash your hands frequently, or better still, wash your hands before touching your face.
Drink enough water
Drink lots of water! Your body is made up of mostly water, which helps in flushing out toxins. Your lifestyle or daily activities can affect how much water you need, but nine glasses of fluids daily should keep your body hydrated. Fruits and vegan milk contain high amounts of water and can add up to your nine glasses.
A simple trick:First thing in the morning, drink about four glasses of water. It will replenish your body and skin after the all-night drought, providing virtually half of your daily recommended amount. This will help keep your skin on track throughout the day.
Never sleep with your makeup on
No matter how badly you want to hop into bed, never go with your makeup on. The least you should do is first to remove your makeup using oil like castor or coconut oil. If you sleep with your makeup, it can clog your skin pores. This can lead to acne and skin aging.
Wash your bedsheets and pillowcases every week
Your bedsheets and pillowcases hold a lot of your dead skin cells, saliva, pet hairs, dust, sweat, oils from your skin, dander, and dirt. The list goes on and on—at least now you get the point.
So, it is a great idea to wash your bedsheets and pillowcases every week. This helps in getting rid of all those nasty things that must have gotten stuck on your sheets and pillowcases. Also, it gives your skin a fresh start.
